Irish Clans are somewhat similar to Genealogical Societies or One Name Societies - but with an additional social dimension which is unique. The Irish Government instigated the establishment of The Clans of Ireland Ltd. in 1989 to co-ordinate the activities of the Irish Clans, and over two hundred and thirty Irish Clans have been registered to date.

Membership of any Irish Clan is open to any and every individual with an ancestor having the family surname, with no restrictions as to race, religion or gender.

(Clan O'Brien is a paid up member through December 2007.)

Check your Chapters for activities and festivals in your area. Clan O'Brien is proud to be the only Irish Clan to attend festivals in California, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware.
